What are we learning?
Language Arts:
In reading we learned how to compare/contrast 2 books, compare/contrast characters in a story, and determine the author’s purpose for writing the book with supporting details. Also, we learned about making connections within a text.
Books we read and discussed-

- “Ish”
- “The Polar Express”
- “The Gingerbread Man”
- “The Grinch”
- “Christmas Trolls”
Writing: In writing we learned the difference between facts and opinions. We practiced writing facts/opinions and completed sorting activities. Also, students practiced writing a variety of opinion pieces using sentence starters and transitions.
Books we read for opinion writing:
- “Scaredy Squirrel”
- “How to Catch an Elf”
- “Should the Pigeon Get a Puppy?”
- “Duck! Rabbit!”
Math:
We have started unit 4. Unit 4 involves teen numbers, story problems with teen totals, and learning about place value. Please make sure your child completes and returns homework each day.
Phonics:
We are learning about digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh), blends, and word families.
Reminders:
- Check yellow folder
- Read/write sight words
- Read 15 minutes- return baggie and book
- Math homework
