IAR Testing (Illinois Assessment of Readiness)

We have two state language arts assessments next week. They will be in the afternoon on Monday and Wednesday of next week. Your child is doing a great job of being ready to test after lunch.

Math

Unit 7 also focuses on fractions. We continue to practice comparing fractions using a number line. I have taught the class what we call the “butterfly method” or “cross multiplying” as well. The following video helps explain comparing fractions too. If you have a moment, please watch the video to find out what your child is studying in class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNdUJQ_qd4U

Language Arts

The class began a research project on state from the west region. Your child will publish their research as an opinion piece on a brochure trying to convince a traveler to visit their state of choice. We are following the writer’s workshop process from draft to publish. You will have a chance to see your child’s work at Open House.

Social Studies

We are studying the midwest. We made several stops on our tour visiting the St. Louis arch, the Soo Locks, Mall of America, Wrigley field, and much more. I have sent home flashcards so that your child can practice matching the states and capitals. Our quiz on the midwest will be on April 17, 2019
