Welcome to a New Week!
Posted by Jill Van Camp on 1/21/2020
I hope that you had a wonderful long weekend! What's even better--we have another short week!
Student Council Representatives: Let's talk about Pennies for Patients! What are some ideas that you have for fundraising? What should our class goal be?
Independent Reading:
- Please read quietly as I check everyone's reading status from over the weekend.
- Update your reading list as needed.
- If you need to visit the LMC, please let me know.
Core 3: No Red Ink Quiz (from last week)
Triangle Shirtwaist Fire Webquest--let's review the answers that you prepared for today. Discuss first at your tables, and then we will review as a whole class.
We are going a few articles/historical fiction stories that relate to this tragedy. They are in our Collections book. If you do not want to use a textbook, please use this link to follow along. We will be filling out the text map as we read, too.
Today we will begin reading from the history writing "Flesh and Blood So Cheap: The Triangle Fire and Its Legacy".
- Let's read the background on page 265--What is the title connection? Text structure?
- Starting on page 266, we need to describe the three floors of the factory. What is the author's purpose for using the word "flammable"?
- If there is time, we will start reading/analyzing page 267.
In Google Classroom, there is a new Vocabulary.com assignment that relates to this text and another that we will read from our book. The lesson is due on Friday, January 31.
To Do:
- Finish anything that we did not complete from the first two pages of the historical writing
- Vocabulary.com lesson
- Read!
XLT:
- Read independently for the first 10 minutes of class.
- Second Step: Lesson 14 (Handling Emotions) Yes, Claire, there is an "If-Then" plan!!
