CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — All Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 students can now get a Crystal Lake Public Library (CLPL) Student Access Card, giving them access to CLPL books, services, and programs. 

The Student Access Card is the result of an intergovernmental agreement (District 47 IGA) the Crystal Lake Public Library Board and the Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 Board signed in the fall of 2022. Cards are to be used by students only and are issued for the duration of elementary school (grades K-5) and renewed for the duration of middle school (grades 6-8). Students can check out up to 3 books or audiobooks at a time, and have access to CLPL’s online library databases, eLibrary (except Hoopla), and library programs.

Cards are available starting August 1, 2023. To get a card, a parent or guardian can visit the library with valid photo ID and current proof of address, and complete a library card application. Those that opted out of the library card agreement through District 47 school registration will not be eligible.

“Our hope for this IGA is to enhance literacy for as many D47 students as possible. The purpose of this agreement is to get students access to these materials,” said Elise Dean, District 47 Director of Literacy and Social Science. “We are working with the library to promote library access within schools.” 

The District 47 IGA includes in-kind contributions by District 47 towards the cost of the cards and resources for unserved students. The District 47 IGA will enhance literacy for students as well as leverage tax dollars by sharing resources, facilities and staff expertise.
