School Reopening - A Message from the Board of Education

June 19, 2020

The current global health pandemic is a complex issue affecting many families and communities in different ways. Given the broad impact of this health crisis, the school district alone is not the decision-making authority on the reopening of schools.

Rather, this process is being guided by Gov. Pritzker’s Restore Illinois five-phase plan. Specific guidance for schools, such as reopening options and requirements, will be provided by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Also, because the COVID-19 pandemic is a public health crisis, decisions related to the health and safety of our students and staff (ex: personal protective equipment and the wearing of face coverings and masks), will be determined by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

It is our hope to bring students and staff back to our schools in the fall but we must do so under the guidance of the law.

As we move forward, besides operating within the parameters set forth by the state and medical experts, we will seek input from our parents and staff to better understand stakeholder priorities and perspectives. Obtaining this feedback will help us to make informed decisions based on the unique needs of our community.

Thank you for your participation and support.
