Student Absences (reporting & info)

If a child will be absent from school, parents/guardians must log into ParentVUE to report the absence before the start of the school day -- by 8:50 a.m. (preK and elementary) and by 7:30 a.m. (middle school). Once logged into ParentVUE, click the Report Absence button to complete the quick, two-step process. Note: If you have more than one child in District 47 who will be absent, you will need to complete the process for each child. For assistance, see the resources below: If you need help logging into ParentVUE or have questions, see the links below or contact the parent help desk at hd@d47.org.

Submit Absences via ParentVue instructions - English/Spanish

You must select the reason for your child’s absence in order to complete this process.

If you do not enter this information in ParentVUE by the time school starts and your child is absent from school, you will receive a phone call, email and text message reminder to log into ParentVUE. Please ensure that your primary number stays up-to-date throughout the year so that we can provide you with pertinent information if necessary, or contact you regarding your student. If you have any questions, please email the parent help desk at hd@d47.or with the subject line “ParentVUE Attendance.”

A parent or guardian must report/submit an absence each day a student misses all or part of his/her school day. These can be submitted 24-hours a day via ParentVUE. Written notes are not acceptable to excuse absences. Please make sure you are providing detailed information regarding your student’s absence, especially if they are sick, as nurses are required to report illness related trends to the local health department. (i.e. fever, vomiting, ear infection, strep throat, pink eye, asthma, etc).

If your student is identified as missing 10% or more of the school year, a staff member will reach out to you and a letter will be sent. Consistently truant, unexcused student absences will be referred to the county Truancy Officer.

Please see the student handbook for further information.
