    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -Silly McGilly came to visit from Ireland! He's the cousin to Elf on the Shelf and he plays tricks on the class or watches from afar to make sure everyone is being respectful, responsible and safe! (P.S. He's a stuffed leprechaun;)

    -th, sh digraphs

    -word families: ing, ill, ay, all, ar

    -March sight words: be, went, play, was, will

    -Continued to read circle stories: If you give...

    -wrote and read many "chunks" inside words 

    -discussed being fair & resolving conflicts (instead of tattling)

    -partner equations, adding and subtracting, monster squeeze (greater than, less than)

    -journaled: wrote 2 sentences and illustration

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -Presidents' Day activities

    -Started our discussion on penguins and fiction vs non-fiction

    -Received our new journals with THREE LINES to write more sentences:)

    -Greater than, less than in math

    -Learned about Spheres

    -Tiny Tumblers- "Math Mountain" and tiny tumblers roll down to shoe different partners of numbers

    -Finished reading Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in Her Pocket  and discussion the farm

    -Worked on initial and ending sounds

    -Wrote about the beach--we WISH we could go to the beach!

    Important Dates:

    -We earned 100 Polar Paws as a class! MONDAY 2/24  it's PAJAMA DAY and EXTRA SNACK DAY!

    -Book Order Due 2/28

    -February 26th - Early Release for students & PTA Meeting (6:30 in the LMC)

    -February 28th - End of 2nd Trimester

    -February 28th & 29th - Polar Bear Players presents The Jungle Book (Fri. 7pm; Sat. 2pm)

    -March 14th - PTA sponsored movie, Classic Cinemas Woodstock, 10am

    -March 19th - Kindergarten & 1st grade concert 6:30pm

    -March 23rd thru 27th - Spring Break

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -continued our discussion on diversity

    -celebrated being 100 days smarter

    -began making our class quilt

    -saw some awesome quilts that kids brought in

    -equations of 10

    -sleeping bugs (partners of 10)

    -teen numbers 10+ _

    -practiced recognizing 3 digit numbers

    February 28 & 29 - Polar Bear Players presents The Jungle Book. We will see it as a school assembly. You can buy tickets for the other shows.

    *You should have received an e-mail from MRS. EVANS THE MUSIC TEACHER. The kindy/1st grade program is March 19th at 6:30 pm. THERE WILL NOT BE A PROGRAM IN THE SPRING/GRADUATION!*

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -ch/sh/ph sounds

    -Groundhog day activities

    -diversity is a fancy word for different

    -read many books about diversity

    -CLS basketball players came to read to us

    -teen numbers

    -added and subtracted numbers

    *Our class will have the opportunity to pass our Valentines (NO CANDY OR FOOD PLEASE)! We have 20 students in our class and I ask that your child JUST SIGNS HIS/HER NAME! We don't write out the "To:" as it is much easier to pass out!*

    **We will be making Valentine's Day Mailboxes together**

    Important Dates:

    -Feb 8th - FUN FAIR- a carnival inside! Jumpy things, games, fun!

    -Feb 14th - Valentine's Day & Early Dismissal -WEAR RED

    -Feb 17th NO SCHOOL

    -Feb 25th EARLY RELEASE

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -started our journey of state mandated testing

    -worked on ending sounds

    -continued on beginning sounds and rhymes

    -learned about partners and switched partners in math

    -played the unknown number game in math

    -more adding and subtracting

    -groups of 10 +_ more

    -ox word family

    -build snowmen with the letters in our names

    *Please send your child with warm clothes for outside (jackets with closures, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, etc). They do go outside when it snows! If they want to play in the snow they must have snowpants and boots as well. I encourage all kids to wear their snowpants and boots to stay DRY AND WARM!

    *Many socks and pants are getting wet from the snow, so be sure to send in an extra set of clean, dry clothes (including socks) they can change into.

    -1/31 Disney Spirit Day

    -2/8 Fun Fair

    -2/14 Valentine's Day Party & Early Release (2:00)- Reminder: no food or cany can be given out to classmates as Valentines!

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -learned about symmetry...when asked if anyone knew what this was, one student said "it's where they bury dead people" {cemetery}

    -sequencing events from a story

    -made bookmarks to spread kindness

    -discussed how "kindness" is contagious and like a domino effect

    -ug, an, ig word families

    -rhyming words

    -more gingerbread stories and activities

    -made elf traps with our 4th grade buddies

    *Needed: in an effort to keep our classroom germ-free, I have been wiping down tables and workspaces often! Please send in clorox wipes/disinfecting wipes OR baby wipes, if you can!*

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -Read and compared many versions of Gingerbread Man: Ninjabread Man, Lamington Man (Austrialian version), city version, etc.

    -Made Gingerbread hats

    -Many wrote their own gingerbread stories during Book Making

    -Syllable work

    -Teen numbers (14=10+4)

    -Addition and subtraction

    -Story elements (characters, setting, solution)

    -Kindness is contagious

    -Started decorating for the holiday season

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -filled our bucket with ways to be kind

    - introduced homophones

    -"th" sound

    -animals that hibernate or migrate

    -what we are thankful for

    -shared about our family and our feasts during Thanksgiving

    -started addition and subtraction problems (to 5)

    -more reading books are coming home for the break (if they have their book bag here)!

    -reading bags came home-they go home and come back to school daily (just like the folder)

    -learned about the armed forces on Veteran's Day

    -journaled-sentences with capital letter at the beginning, spaces, sight words and punctuation

    -learned about cornucopias

    -worked on syllables

    -made patterns on Indian Corn

    -watercolored and cut out a multi-step craft project

    Take a peek at what we did this week:

    -Went to Raue Center for the Arts for Pete the Cat Field Trip. The kids giggled and smiled the whole time--PRICELESS!

    -Compared an accident and on purpose

    -Read Fantasy Fiction books and Non-fiction

    -Thanksgiving activities--Keep the Family Turkeys coming! They are super cute and the class is super proud to share them.

    -look, am, go, on, to are our new sight words

    -Let me know what Winter Holidays you celebrate--especially if it's different than Christmas!

    -Canned Food Drive ends 11/20

    -11/13 PTA meeting

    -11/11-12/3 Butter Braids Fundraiser--THESE ARE DELICIOUS!
