Dear Husmann families,
Welcome to the opening of what promises to be a wonderful school year! At this time of the year, there is great anticipation of what is to come, and I am as excited as the Husmann teachers, children, and parents. Why? I am excited because I have been given the honor of being named the new principal at Husmann.
Prior to joining District 47, I began my educational career as a third grade teacher in Palatine School District 15. I really loved teaching and the difference I was making in my classroom. As a teacher, I always knew I wanted to expand my influence beyond the classroom by becoming an administrator. As an administrator I could take my passion for instruction and making a difference in children’s lives to the next level. I served as an assistant principal and principal for seven years in Palatine School District 15. I learned the importance of building strong relationships with parents, teachers, students, and colleagues, that effective communication is essential and all students can learn and grow. These lessons will carry over to my leadership here at Husmann.
Having a healthy balance between home and school is very important to me. This is what brought me to District 47. My husband and I are residents of Cary looking to move to the Crystal Lake area. My husband (Andy) teaches Social Studies in District 155 and is a varsity football coach. We have three beautiful daughters: Mila (5), Ava (4), and Lily (1). Knowing how quickly children grow up, it is important to me to be present in their education and to spend quality family time together. This summer we had fun completing our family summer bucket list. Some highlights on the list were spending time at the lake in Wisconsin, cooling off at the splash park, and taking the train into the city.
I am fortunate to be blessed with two families; one at home and one at school. I want you to know both are equally important to me. Just as I nurture, support, and challenge my own children I plan to do the same for your children here at Husmann. I am committed to ensuring that every Husmann student receives the very best education possible and that all students and their families understand they are an important part of our school.
As I join in the journey of learning and leadership at Husmann Elementary, I look forward to meeting and connecting with the Husmann community. I value an open dialogue between the school and our parents. For this reason, I encourage anyone with any feedback, questions, or concerns to take the time to come and meet with me so we can discuss and work together for solutions. I will be hosting a series of Principal Coffees throughout the school year. The purpose of these coffees is for parents to meet informally with the principal to share feedback and perspectives on school enhancements and learn about the happenings of our school and district. The dates and times of these coffees will be communicated out later in August. Additional opportunities to engage your home and our school will be shared through newsletters, e-mails through Synergy, updated information on our website, and through Twitter.
Furthermore, a great deal of effort has gone into preparing our school for the upcoming school year. I would like to express my appreciation to Luis Perez, Mike Belmonte, and Richard Washington, our custodial team, for all of their efforts. You will see first- hand their efforts at our upcoming August events:
