    Hello Glacier Ridge Band families!

Welcome to the District 47 Band Program! We are so glad that you have decided to join the Glacier Ridge Elementary Band! My name is Mrs. Guthrie, and I am the band director at Glacier Ridge Elementary School. This letter will provide you with information that is essential to band and answer questions you may have.

When will FULL BAND REHEARSAL begin?

The FULL BAND REHEARSALS are our opportunity to learn how to work together as a team. These rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, August 27th with no instruments. Full band at Glacier Ridge will be twice per week on Tuesday morning at 8:10am and Thursday during lunch recess. Students will report to the stage for rehearsal. Please arrive on time so that rehearsals can begin punctually. Many parents carpool to make things easier. It is imperative that students attend these rehearsals so that our team learns how to work together.

When does small group instruction start?

Our small group instruction, called TECHNIQUE CLASSES, will begin the first full week of school. At Glacier Ridge, technique classes will be on Tuesday. Students will receive their technique class schedule prior to their first technique class.

    How do TECHNIQUE CLASSES work?

Technique classes are once a week for 30 minutes. Students will be in small groups of like instruments (clarinets with clarinets, trumpets with trumpets, etc.). The technique classes will be on a rotating schedule so that students do not miss the same subject every week. For example, if a student has a lesson at 9:05am the first week, their lesson the second week will be at 9:35am and then at 10:30am the following week. Groupings can be changed a couple of times a year at the teacher’s discretion and in the best interest of the band students.

Where do I get my instrument?

If you have ordered to rent an instrument from Quinlan and Fabish (the company present at band registration), that instrument will be delivered to the school before the first technique class. If you are renting from another company or have your own instrument, your student will need to bring that instrument to the first TECHNIQUE CLASS.

    When are concerts?

Concert dates are still being solidified. Concert information will go out as soon as the schedule has been finalized. The first concert will not be until December, at the earliest.

I hope this information is helpful and gets you excited for band! Please email me at mthielsen@d47.org with any other questions or concerns. I look forward to a wonderful year of band with you!
