You  can use any materials that you can find to build the basket and the attachment system to the string or yarn.  It’s completely up to you how long you want to make your zipline and where it is located.

Some options might be making the basket that holds the egg out of lego pieces, egg carton, pipe cleaners, yogurt container or old plastic egg halves.

The challenge is to get something in the basket to the end of the zipline undamaged and safely to the end.

Extra challenge:  Can it hold weight and travel safely down your zipline?

Could you make it a race challenge with two ziplines side by side?

  • Remote Learning Week 2 - 4/6 - 4/9

Posted by Pamela Urbina on 4/6/2020 8:00:00 AM

Welcome to week 2 of remote learning! I hope you enjoyed the Encore activities that the Encore team has planned for your students. One question that came up a lot is whether families can rearrange the days they do the activities so that their children can have the same encore on the same day. The answer is Yes!! It is perfectly fine for all of your students to do art on one day and P.E. another day, etc. The Encore team wants it to be a fun and manageable part of your day. We also love it when we you post pictures of what you are doing.  For Mrs. Janconetti's class, we have our own Seesaw page - 19-20 Urbina-KJ. I've loved seeing the pictures and videos that many of you have already posted! I am available from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day if you need support.  After 12:30 I may be meeting with other teachers and may not be readily available, but should be able to respond within 24 hours.  You can reach me at purbina@d47.org.

Here are this week's Encore activities:

    Music

Make a homemade instrument such as a  drum or shaker using recycled materials or items from your kitchen.  Use your instrument to play a steady beat while you sing a song you know - maybe even two songs!  A question to keep in mind - does it work best to play your instrument loud or quiet while you sing?

    Art

Paint or color a drawing of your favorite animal. Think about what lines and shapes you can use to create the animal.

After completing the drawing, you can upload it to Artsonia. Post to Week 2 - Grade Level. If you don’t have access to Artsonia, you can upload the app on your phone or please keep drawings for Mrs. Urbina to see when we return to school. The Classroom Code for Artsonia is HNMH-NSJJ.

    P.E.

    Do your P.E. warm-up

    • Do 10 Jumping Jacks
    • Touch your toes for 10 seconds
    • Hold Plank for a 10 seconds
    • Do 10 sit-ups with a family member holding your feet

Below, is an optional April Activity Calendar.  Feel free to complete the activities with your family.

April 2020 - Get Moving Calendar

    STEM

This week, I have a couple different options that you can pick from or you can do them both, if you want.

Option 1:  Egg Tower or Egg Support

The idea is to build a structure that will hold a plastic egg or a candy egg on top. If you don’t have an egg, it can hold anything on top. You can use playdough, toothpicks, foil, paper, popsicle sticks, straws, legos or anything that you have at home that would work for this challenge.

    Option 2:

Make an egg shaped lego design or basket.  If you do not have legos, you could make a paper basket that can hold something inside.  It needs to have a handle too!

    LMC

Read a picture book to or with a parent, pet, or stuffed animal.  Retell what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  You may choose to post a picture on the Mrs. Urbina's Seesaw account!
