Degrees and Certifications:
Hi welcome to my website. I would like to give you a little background on myself. I am Rachelle Johnson. I am married to my husband of 34 years, Claude Johnson, and we have an 18 year old daughter, Elizabeth. This is my 26th year with District 47. I started at South as a kindergarten aide. I have taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, kindergarten, Primary Thinking Skills, and for the past thirteen years as a Reading Recovery teacher. I graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. I earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Design from Concordia University and have earned an additional 50+ graduate hours. I completed my Reading Recovery training from National Lewis University in 2008. I have my teaching certificate from the state of Illinois and I am able to teach K-9 with a Reading endorsement.
Teaching is my second career. I worked as a secretary for Northwest Airlines for six years and during that time, I decided to follow my passion for a love of learning. I headed back to school part time while working full time. I truly love to learn new things and helping children find their love of learning. I continue to take continuing education classes in that quest to learn.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and a love of theater with my daughter. I also enjoy reading, knitting and crocheting, spending time with friends, and swimming. We have two beagles, Bonnie and Clyde.

I look forward to getting to know your child this year and working together to help them unlock the wonders of reading. This year is definitely one for the books.
