Special Olympics - D47

District 47 Special Olympics creates meaningful athletic opportunities for students ages 8-15 with intellectual disabilities, helping them build confidence, develop physical and social skills, and experience a strong sense of belonging as part of a team. The program supports students’ social and emotional growth while reflecting District 47’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for all learners, both in and out of the classroom.

The District 47 Special Olympics team will be participating in the Track and Field Regional Competition.

Who is eligible to participate in Special Olympics?

  • Must have an identified intellectual disability
  • Must be 8 years old or older by the date of the competition
  • Must be able to participate in track and field events (50-meter run and ball throw)
  • Must attend all eight scheduled practices
  • Must attend the Spring Regional Competition (April 25-26, 2026)
  • Parent/guardian must provide transportation to and from each event and must remain with their student during competition days
