District 47 Welcomes Antonio Illescas as the New Director of Multilingual Programming

We are proud to announce that Antonio Illescas has been named the new Director of Multilingual Programming for District 47, effective on July 1, 2026. With more than 10 years of experience in multilingual education, including the past three years as an assistant principal, Mr. Illescas has spent his career championing multilingual learners and the programs and staff that support them.

“Throughout his career, Mr. Illescas has served as a dual language, Spanish and German teacher, as well as an instructional coach, at the high school and middle school levels." said Dr. Kathy Hinz, superintendent. “This foundation has prepared him well for a leadership role that leverages data-driven decision-making, celebrates growth, and strengthens instructional practices for the benefit of staff and students.”

As a building administrator, Mr. Illescas focused on supporting teachers in meeting the diverse needs of their students, strengthening communication between schools and families, and creating meaningful opportunities for multilingual students to thrive. His work is centered on ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and able to reach their full potential.

“I am honored to be named the new Director of Multilingual Programming for District 47,” said Illescas. “As Rita Mae Brown said, ‘Language is the road map of culture.’ I look forward to partnering with staff and families to celebrate our students’ languages and help every multilingual learner thrive.”

Mr. Illescas is fluent in English, Spanish, and German and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in second language instruction. Mr. Illescas holds master’s degrees in educational leadership, Spanish education, and curriculum and instruction, and a bachelor’s in German language and literature.

Mr. Illescas was board approved on December 15, 2025, and District 47 is excited to welcome him at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year.
