Crystal Lake Community Comes Together to Host Resource Fair for District 47 Families

On August 24, 2024, Crystal Lake Elementary District 47, in collaboration with several local churches and community organizations, hosted a highly successful Resource Fair for District 47 families. The event, held at The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, aimed to equip students with essential resources and services to ensure they are ready for the new school year.

The fair, known as Crystal Lake Community Cares, was a collaborative effort between the district and church partners, including Willow Creek, Hope Church, and Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake. The event featured a variety of services:

  • Greater Family Health administered required school physicals and immunizations while scheduling dental exams.
  • Cosmetology and Spa Academy provided free haircut vouchers for preK through 8th-grade students.
  • The Salvation Army of McHenry County distributed backpacks and school supplies.
  • Crystal Lake Public Library assisted families with library service registrations.
  • Crystal Lake Lions Club conducted vision and hearing screenings.Iglesia Oasis provided translators.
  • First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake offered laundry packs.
  • Living Waters Lutheran Church provided birthday packs for students.
  • Bethany Lutheran donated shoes.
  • Crystal Lake Police Department attended the event, providing books, headphones, and support.

In addition to these services, the event featured free food, with The Evangelical Free Church grilling for attendees, as well as entertainment and activities for children.The event drew the participation of local leaders, including State Representative Suzanne Ness and Crystal Lake Mayor Haig Haleblian, who joined in supporting the district's efforts. Their presence highlighted the strong community ties and shared commitment to the well-being of students and families in the area.

"Every student deserves to start the school year ready to learn and prepared for success,” said Dr. Kathy J. Hinz, Superintendent of Crystal Lake Elementary District 47. “It’s incredible to see the community coming together to support District 47 students and families. We are grateful for the many businesses and organizations that generously donate their time, resources, and services."

The Resource Fair was a testament to the power of community collaboration, ensuring that every student in District 47 had access to the resources they need for a successful school year.
