District 47 Boundaries

Maintaining balanced student enrollment across our schools is crucial for providing equitable access to resources, facilities, and educational opportunities. The District is reviewing current boundaries in an effort to offer consistent access to programs, improve transportation efficiency, and keep students at their home schools whenever possible.

The committee looked at alignment with the D155 boundaries for South, Central, and Prairie Ridge as well as the projected impact on enrollment for 5 housing developments currently being built and/or approved for development. As scenarios were developed, the committee looked at projected enrollment out to the 2030/31 school year for balanced enrollment across the three middle schools as well as being mindful of each of the building’s instructional capacity as determined by our architectural firm.

At the December 16, 2024, Board of Education meeting, the Board voted 6-0 to approve Option 1 of the boundary changes recommended by the boundary committee. These middle school boundary changes will be implemented for the 2025-2026 school year. Review of the elementary boundaires started in the second half of the 2024-2025 school year and will continue through the 2025-2026 school year. We do not anticipate any changes to the elementary boundaries until the 2026-2027 school year, at the earliest. Updates will be shared on the website, newsletters, and direct communications.

The board of education will be presented with two scenarios and community feedback during the November 18 board meeting. The board will have the opportunity to discuss the two scenarios and ask questions, and the topic will return for a final vote at the December 16 board meeting.

An email was sent to every District 47 family on October 22. Some letters confirmed there would be no change to families' current designated schools, while others provided information about impending changes and the factors that influenced those decisions. Students entering 8th grade in the 2025-2026 school year will be allowed to remain at their current school by special request; however, parents will be responsible for providing transportation. A request form is available in a link on the boundary web page. All requests are due by April 11, 2025. 

No, doing so would create significant imbalances as all three middle schools sit within Crystal Lake Central’s boundaries. This would especially impact Lundahl, exceeding its instructional capacity as determined by our architectural firm and leaving the other schools unevenly populated. Click here for more details.

McHenry Avenue has been deemed a hazardous walkway for years meaning that it is not safe for students to walk across. Additionally, the student population south of Lundahl is significant enough that there is not room to have students from the Coventry subdivision attend Lundahl and remain under capacity. 

The letters reflect the home school your student would attend if they weren’t in a special program. Current 6th and 7th graders in the dual language program will continue to be transported to their current school. We are reviewing all of our special programs, including dual language, with the goal of potentially expanding them to all three middle schools. If implemented, this would allow students to attend their home school, starting with incoming 6th graders in the 2025-2026 school year and expanding over time.
