After a successful pilot of the Purposeful Play program during the 2017-18 school year, District 47 implemented Purposeful Play in all kindergarten classrooms for the 2018-19 school year. Purposeful Play is an emerging trend in education and has been shown to enhance school readiness by addressing children’s social, emotional, physical and academic needs. The program helps children explore interests; develop and strengthen vocabulary; and enhance communication, problem-solving, and social skills. Many of the activities involved in the program are aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and Illinois Social Emotional Learning Standards. Purposeful Play occurs three times a week for 30-45 minutes. Check out the video below to learn more about this new program!
