Kindergarten Bus Transportation

  • The District 47 Transportation Joint Agreement (TJA) provides transportation to District 47’s early childhood center, nine elementary schools, three middle schools, and four District 155 high schools. Our daily goal is to deliver all students to and from school in a safe and timely manner.

To qualify for busing, students must reside at least 1.5 miles from their home school -- a guideline set forth by the state of Illinois. Bus information will be provided for eligible students through District 47’s student/parent portal called ParentVue. In August, TJA holds a “meet the bus” transportation open house for incoming preschool and kindergarten students at the bus garage, located at 1204 S. McHenry Avenue in Crystal Lake. Parents are encouraged to attend with their student to learn about bus safety, get to know bus drivers and even board and ride a bus!

We encourage parents to visit the bus stop with their child. Along the way, consider pointing out familiar sights (such as trees, stop signs, a brightly painted house, store, etc.) to help students become more familiar with their route.

    Arrival

Please be sure that your child arrives to school on time. During the first few days of a new school year, some parents prefer to walk their kindergartners to the doors located at one of the designated entrances. While this is acceptable at the very beginning of the school year, parents are discouraged from walking their child to these doors once school has been in session for more than a week.

    Departure

When school has been dismissed, students need to be picked up on time if not taking the school bus home. Children often become distressed if they are picked up late. A parent note is required for any change in your child’s dismissal routine.
