Kindergarten Eligibility

  • A child turning 5 years old on or before September 1st of any school year has historically been a requirement for kindergarten. Parents interested in enrolling a child not yet 5 years old on or before this date can make a request to schedule a kindergarten screening by completing a form on the D47 website. The form must be submitted no later than April 1st for consideration for the following school year. Requests made after April 1st will not be honored. Please note that submitting a form does not guarantee early entrance into kindergarten. Parents will be contacted by a D47 staff member upon completing the online form and a screening for their child will be scheduled in April. Please note: Parents of students who are not yet 5 years of age will not be allowed to register their child during the February kindergarten registration. Registration will be scheduled upon completion of the screening process and when a final determination has been made.

For the 2019-2020 school year, screenings will take place April 9, 10 and 11, 2019. The screenings will incorporate both academic and social-emotional components and cost $150 (regardless of outcome). Checks should be made payable to District 47 at the time of the screening. If the student being registered has a sibling in District 47 and he/she qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, the fee may be reduced or possibly waived.
