Transportation is provided to Wehde early childhood students by the Transportation Joint Agreement (TJA), which provides bus service for Districts 47 and 155. Seatbelts or car seats are used for all students, and buses are met by staff members at door #11 in front of the Center. Most early childhood students ride the bus and we encourage parents to allow their children to do so as students typically enjoy the experience and it fosters their independence. In August, the TJA (Transportation Joint Agreement) hosts an open house for Wehde students and incoming District 47 kindergartners where students and families can learn about bus safety, meet the drivers and “Buster” the bus, and even board and ride a school bus!
Students who are driven to school by parents are also met at door #11 at either 8:55 a.m. (for morning session) or 12:25 p.m. (for afternoon session). We ask that students not arrive prior to this time as staff members are not available to supervise students. When dropping students off, parents should park their car and walk their child to meet Wehde staff. When picking students up, parents should arrive at 11:25 a.m. (for morning session) or 2:55 p.m. (for afternoon session).
To avoid congestion around the entrance to the building and at the bus stop, parents who drop off their child are asked to wait on the sidewalk near the parking lot. Please remember not to pass a school bus that has its stop sign out; failure to wait behind a school bus in this instance can result in a citation, even in the school parking lot. Any questions or concerns regarding transportation should be directed to the transportation department at 815.455.0558.
