    Students joined FlipGrid and introduced themselves digitally. They will use this venue for the book project. They will take a character from their March book, choose their favorite scene, and become the character while expanding on that scene. This will be due on March 19th.

     

    Students picked their March book. This was a free choice month for whatever genre and book they wanted. The students loaded their book on Learning Ally. Please encourage your student to read this month.

     

    Students will begin to brainstorm ideas for the Narrative short story they will be writing in the month of March.  

    Our classes will partake in our March Madness Brackets based on performances of various Poetry and how they incorporate the Elements of Poetry.

     

    Students continue to listen to a Mystery Podcast-"Six Minutes". They use visualizing strategies to sketch the episodes.

     

    Ask your child about the new extensions added to their Chromebooks: Select & Speak, Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader, and Snap N' Read. This allows students to listen to assignments/materials on their Chromebooks in the form of PDFs, Google Docs, and websites. Students are also encouraged to use Grammarly and Co-Writer for written work on the Chromebook. Students also have access to the digital Social Studies textbook through BookShare.

    February Final Book Project is due Monday, March 2. It is located in Google Classroom. They will conduct an author study on Margaret Haddix and complete the slides. As a class, everyone read a Haddix book.

    STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES: Please make sure to join your student at conferences as they will guide you through their day at Bernotas. They will prepare a script and show you examples of work they have completed so far this school year in each class. Teachers are available after the students have conducted their conference with you. They must bring their Chromebook. 6th graders will be in the cafeteria. Hope to see you there!

    This week, students will begin researching for the Expository paper. Students will brainstorm ideas, narrow it down to the top 3 choices, conduct mini-research, and finally pick their top choice. They will begin note-taking on their topic. 

     

    November Historical Fiction book assignment #2 due Thursday, Nov. 14th.

     

    The Assistive Technology teacher in the District, Mrs. Fitzsimons, will be guesting in our class 2 days this week. She will be working with the students for the SS digital textbook and other various technology tools they can use, such as Grammarly Premium, in-depth Co-writer support, and Snap n'Read. Directions for the SS textbook and the online tools will be sent home Friday.
