    Welcome....

Welcome to 5th Grade! This will be an exciting year! I will be on maternity leave through November, but I am looking forward to a wonderful year when I return. Fifth grade is a year of growing responsibilities for your child. I will have high expectations, and hope that each one of my students will work hard to achieve all of their goals. Don't worry - we will have a lot of fun, too!

    For Parents....

While this year is going to look a bit different, I encourage you to please communicate any questions, concerns, or comments with me via email. I try to respond as quickly as possible as your concerns are important to me. If you call, please tell the secretaries why you are calling and when would be a good time for me to call you. This will enable me to have the information you need and call you when you are available.

    About Your Child's Teacher....

While I am originally from Waukesha, WI, I grew up in Batavia, Illinois. I attended Augustana College where I received my degree in Elementary Education and Communications. I graduated in May of 2015 and headed to Crystal Lake to begin teaching at West! I taught one year of 2nd grade at West, and am currently in my fifth year teaching 5th grade. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I truly enjoy working with my students. I believe we can accomplish great things when we work together.

    Daily Happenings....

We have very busy days in 5th grade. While we work hard, the days seem to fly by so quickly. Each day your child should visit our "Virtual Classroom" to find the day's schedule/assignments. Our lunch time is 12:35-1:25. At the end of each day your child will be responsible for completing his/her homework assignments.

    This 'n That....

-We will be working on study skills throughout the year. My goal is to help your child become more independent as they move towards middle school. Your child will learn how to manage his/her time and study a topic more in depth. While I encourage you to support your child's learning, please allow your child to complete the work. The best way to help your child is to provide the materials, space, and time needed to complete the project.

    Final Thoughts....

Our virtual classroom is a safe learning environment for ALL students. I believe it is imperative for parents/students/teachers to work together throughout the year. If something is bothering your child (or you), please let me know sooner rather than later. Problems are much easier to solve in the early stages. I also appreciate it when parents let me know when things are going well. Your feedback enables me to address your child's needs. Finally, thank you for everything you do to support your child. You are your child's first teacher(s). I promise to advocate for your child, support your child, and treat your child with the utmost respect. I am looking forward to this year's learning adventure. I sincerely hope you and your child will enjoy this school year!

                                                                                                    ~Mrs. Luckey

    IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION

*The McHenry Department of Health issued guidance this week regarding large group gatherings. The CDC has also issued guidance on this topic. Based on this recommendation, District 47 has made the decision to postpone large group activities and events that involve the general public and spectators.

Unfortunately, this means we will be unable to accommodate parents and family members at our Living Museum, which is scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday.  As a grade level, we are disappointed that you will not be able to attend this event, however, we must follow guidelines.

Thank you to all of those who already RSVP’d and for your continued support of this fun project!

    Stay healthy.

    Sincerely,

    5th grade teachers

Mrs. Whiting, Mrs. Wolf, Mrs. Luckey, Mr. Pinshower

    Musical!!

*The 5th Grade musical is quickly approaching, and students are doing a great job learning their songs!  Our performance will be held on Friday, April 3rd.  Students will perform for the school that day at 10:30 AM and for friends and family in the evening at 7:00 PM.

Look for information to come home with your student about costumes and props.  Students can use the link below to practice songs for the musical at home!

When we are working hard and being positive, we earn PAW PRIDESQUIET CRITTERSPENNIES, and GOLDEN PAWS. Ask your children about these incentives!
