Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Barkley

Hi I am Karen Barkley. I teach second grade at Husmann Elementary School.  I graduated in December of 1987 from Illinois State University with a degree in Special Education. After 14 years as a special education teacher I went back to school to get my endorsement in elementary education at Northern Illinois University.  Most recently I completed  my ELL (English Language Learners) endorsement and my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at National Louis University.  I love teaching and I love going to school myself!

I grew up and still live in Crystal Lake with my husband.  I myself, was a Husmann student back when it was called Central Grade School. We have four grown children.  My husband and I  have a passion for old houses and antiques and have used that passion to rehab an 90 year old house just down the street from Husmann School.  I also enjoy gardening, traveling, walking our English golden, Maggie Mae and spending time reading on my screened in porch.  I  treasure the time with my family!

Second Grade is such an exciting grade!  There are so many new things to explore and learn about.  As a second grade teacher, I look at every year as a new learning adventure!  I am as curious about what is out there in our world to learn about as the kids are, and look forward to going on that learning adventure with them!
