Degrees and Certifications:
Hi! My name is Mrs. Blake and this is my 9th year teaching at HBMS. I am a 6th-grade learning specialist and teach Direct Instruction Language Arts.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Louisiana State University and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University, as well as an endorsement in teaching ELL (English Language Learners). I have been with Crystal Lake District 47 for 18 years, and prior to that, one year with the Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM). My first 6 years in education were spent in the area of Speech and Language. In 2006, I made the switch to teaching and began teaching in the self-contained CDP (Communication Development Program) at North Elementary, teaching grades 1-3. In 2011, I made the move to Hannah Beardsley Middle School where I have been a 6th-grade learning specialist in the learning resource program ever since.
On a personal note, I live in McHenry with my husband and our three children, Lauren (12), Ryan (10), and Sean (8). They keep my life busy and full of fun at all times! Involved in baseball, Cross Country, and many activities, there is never a dull moment! My husband, Geoff, teaches 8th grade Social Studies at Parkland Middle School. I love the outdoors, reading, and spending time with my family.
