Kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be held on February 12-13, 2020. Registration is held at the CORE Center at 300 Commerce Drive in Crystal Lake. Each school has a designated day, either the 12th or the 13th, where parents can turn in their registration documents, meet school officials, ask questions, and have their child's photo taken.
Parents should plan to bring required registration documents, such as proof of residency and their child's original birth certificate. All families are encouraged to register as early as possible as this helps with appropriate staffing and class size. For details about kindergarten eligibility and the required documents, see below. Note: Fees are not due at the time of registration.
Dual Language Kindergarten: District 47 proudly provides Dual Language programming (Spanish/English) beginning in Kindergarten. For more information regarding the requirements for the application process, please visit our Dual Language page.
The following documents are required in order to register a child for kindergarten:
BIRTH CERTIFICATE. An original or certified copy of a birth certificate is required per state law. Hospital certificates are not acceptable.
PROOF OF RESIDENCY. This is required for ALL incoming kindergarten students regardless of whether or not there is a sibling already attending school in District 47.
NOTE: If you do not have the documents noted above, you will not be able to register your child for kindergarten.
A child turning 5 years old on or before September 1st of any school year has historically been a requirement for kindergarten. Parents interested in enrolling a child not 5 years old on or before this date should plan in advance and make a request for a screening beginning on December 1 and no later than April 1. Requests will not be honored after April 1.
Requests are for the upcoming school year. See chart below for guidance:

Parents interested in their child being screened for early entrance into kindergarten need to complete the form included in the link below. The information provided in this document will not guarantee early entrance into kindergarten. Parents will be contacted by a D47 staff member upon completing the online form and a screening for their child will be scheduled in April. Please note: Students who are not yet 5 years of age will not be allowed to register during the February kindergarten registration. Registration will be scheduled upon completion of the screening process and when a final determination has been made.
Screenings will take place in early and mid April and will incorporate both academic and social-emotional components. The cost for a screening (regardless of the outcome) is $150 and checks should be made payable to District 47 at the time of the screening. If the child has a sibling enrolled in the school district and he/she qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, the fee may be reduced or possibly waived.
Parents interested in both early entrance into kindergarten and their child participating in the dual language program, must attend a parent meeting and apply for the program. In their application for the dual language program, they should indicate that they are seeking early entrance into kindergarten.
