Mr. Ruel Apostol

My name is Mr. Ruel Apostol, teaching 6th-grade science for the House of Huskies!

I have been teaching science at Richard Bernotas Middle School since 2016.  I used to be an intervention paraprofessional teaching math and reading to 1st to 5th graders in a one-on-one or small group setting.  However, Science is not new to me because I am a career switcher from being a licensed Civil Engineer.

I have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a masters focusing on Construction Technology and Management.  I also completed some college computer courses when I was trying to pursue a 2nd degree in Computer Science.  I was in the corporate world for 16 years.  I was involved in the design and construction of community water supply systems, dams, roads, bridges, houses, and small buildings.  When I came to America in 2008, I thought that the start of a new life in a new country was a chance to start afresh – so I decided to follow my dream to become an educator.  My father taught in graduate school while his siblings are elementary and high school teachers.  Teaching is probably in my genes!  I completed my master's degree in Education and endorsed in Science and ESL.  I love going to school as I believe that life is a continuous opportunity to learn.

Where I came from - is a long story! My father is a Filipino while my mother belongs to a Chinese family who migrated to the Philippines because of civil war, famine, and turmoil in the new Chinese republic in the early 1900s.  I was born in Bangkok, Thailand but spent a big part of my youth in Scotland.  For most of my adult life, I lived in the Philippines.  However, I will be living in America permanently.

I have a son in college and a daughter in middle school.  I am happily married to the woman of my dreams!

Go Huskies!
