An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed for children enrolled in Wehde's early childhood special education program. The IEP focuses on educational goals and objectives that will be targeted during the school year. Students’ goals and objectives are frequently written, implemented and evaluated by all team members. Teachers and therapists complement each other’s input on a particular child, thus a seamless continuum of service delivery occurs for the child. All staff agrees on goals and objectives, strategies, expectations, and approaches to use with each child. The IEP is formally reviewed at least once each year, usually in the spring, at which time continued eligibility and educational needs are discussed.

Related services are those services required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from his special education program. Related services include, but are not limited to speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work services, and school psychologist services. Related services are provided if the need is identified in the child’s IEP. Although certain skills may be desirable for a child to acquire, a child may have needs that do not interfere with his ability to benefit from his special education program. Only educationally relevant concerns as specified in a child’s IEP are addressed by the school-based therapist working under the provisions of IDEA.
