COVID-19 Screening and Testing

  • Free COVID PCR Testing at the CORE Center

The RT-PCR test is a shallow nasal swab test that detects genetic material specific to COVID-19 within days of infection, even in individuals not experiencing symptoms. PCR testing is free and available for District 47 staff, students and their families who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Results are available within 48 hours via text or email. PCR test kits are available for pickup at the District 47 CORE Center, 300 Commerce Drive in Crystal Lake (Door 2) between 7:30am and 4:00pm Monday through FridayNo appointments are necessary. Tests can be administered at home (instructions included) and deposited into the drop box outside Door 2 at the CORE Center. Completed tests will be collected daily for analysis by Medstar, a CLIA-certified lab dedicated to COVID testing. For a list of additional COVID testing sites in McHenry County, visit the MCDH website or make an appointment on the Curative testing sites.

NEW FOR 2021-22: SHIELD Surveillance Testing

As an added mitigation layer to maintain in-person learning, District 47 is offering weekly SHIELD surveillance testing during the 2021-22 school year. The SHIELD test is a non-invasive saliva-based, PCR screening test designed to detect the COVID-19 virus in asymptomatic individuals. The SHIELD screening test is a free, opt-in, voluntary program open to all students, regardless of vaccination status. Students who participate in the SHIELD screening program may be exempt from quarantine should they be deemed a close contact if exposed to the COVID-19 virus. For more information about SHIELD testing, see our Shield Frequently Asked Questions document. Parents will be able to indicate interest in having their child participate in the SHIELD program by logging into ParentVue (see instructions below). However, it should be noted that, due to an increased demand for Shield testing from school districts around the state, there may be a processing delay before testing can begin.
