Google chat is a great way for your student to get in touch with me very quickly. Here is a tutorial video that you can watch with your student (this video is also on their google classroom) that will explain how to access google chats!

  • Remote Learning- Explanation

Posted by Caitlinn Hastings on 3/30/2020 8:00:00 AM

As you already know, we will be starting remote learning tomorrow.  As you have also repeatedly heard, “We are all in this together!” Please know that I am working hard to make sure that the students receive the best possible learning experience they can, given the situation.  However, I am asking you to also understand that this is new to me as well and I am learning right along with all of you. I appreciate any support and patience that we can give each other as we start this new journey.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as we get started:

*Each morning by 8:30 I will post that day’s assignments.  They will be sent to:

     1) The parent email

    2) Google Classroom

*Students will be expected to complete the assignments by 9pm each day.  I will be available to answer any questions from 8:30am-1:30pm each day. The best way for students to ask questions they have about assignments is through GOOGLE CHAT.  They can access this by going to their Google Drive (they should all be able to do this) and going to the “waffle” (group of dots in top right corner) and clicking on the “Chat” icon.  Then they just start typing “heileman” into the search box and they should see my name pop up. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR STUDENT TO TEACHER COMMUNICATION ONLY! (see movie tutorial posted on Google Classroom or on website)

Another option would be to send questions directly to my email from the parent’s email.  Students cannot email me directly as they don’t have email set up from school accounts.

*Students will need to access many of the things they brought home from school.  Please be sure to keep these things together and in a place that will be “safe.” Some assignments will be completed on the Chromebook and some will be completed in the spiral your child brought home.  Please keep the “spiral” work all in the same notebook for easy access later.

*Please keep in mind that the assignments that I have posted are assigned with grade level standards in mind.  As some students need more of a challenge and some students may need more support in a classroom, this will also be the case with e-learning.  Please feel free to assist your child as needed and encourage your child to complete each assignment to the BEST OF HIS/HER ABILITY. The point of the assignments is to be sure students are continuing to learn, so any skills/knowledge they can gain from each assignment is meeting the goal.  Please just encourage your child to do their best. :)
