H1N1 Case Confirmed in District 47

The McHenry County Department of Health has contacted District 47 with information that one of our students has tested positive for the H1N1 influenza virus.  We felt it best to inform you of this so that you can continue to monitor the health of your child in case he/she demonstrated any symptoms- cough, fever (greater than 100 degrees), sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.  Continue to encourage your child & all family members to practice good hygiene by regularly washing hands, covering mouths/noses when sneezing with the inner arm, etc…

Enjoy Summer Reading!

books-108.jpg
Remember to keep reading at least 15-20 minutes each day. It's a fun and inexpensive way to "travel" and find adventure. Our summer reading program was sent home with each student on their last day of school. Students keep track of their reading time and return the sheet when they come back in August for a reading prize from their new teacher.

Our Reading Team has provided some helpful tips below on reading and writing activities for parents to enjoy with their children:

Write: a letter, grocery list, note, label, story, recipe

Talk about: a book, television show, a fun time at school, something I learned today

Read:
a story, nursery rhyme, alphabet book, information book, picture book, rhyming book

Sing or Share a
Rhyme: an alphabel song, a Nursery rhyme, other song or rhyme

Recognize letters or words: on signs, in a book, on license plates, insomething we wrote

Tell Stories: at bedtime, mealtime, in the car, on a walk

Visit or attend together: a library, bookstore, a play
