Welcome 5th grade students
Monday June 4, 2012 from 10AM-12PM we will be hosting our annual 5th grade orientations. All future HBMS 6th grade students will join us at Beardsley for a tour of the building and an opportunity to meet staff and current 6th grade students. We will have an opportunity to share some of the ways of the middle school with our guests. We hope to be able to start the process of helping acclimate our new students to their new school. We ask all 5th grade students to bring their questions to be answered.
Many of our HBMS students are involved in many great activities outside of our school including: athletics, music, scouting, community service just to name of few. We would like to recognize these students at HBMS so their peers and teachers can also celebrate their accomplishments. Examples of these accomplishments might include playing the violin, participating in a skating or skiing event, or being part of a musical outside of school. Please send in a picture with an explanation of their endeavour that we can place in one of our showcases, or a DVD of the performance that we can show on our morning TV show. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Ludwig.

Hannah's Closet...The 8th grade dance is such a special time and just around the corner (Saturday, May 19) . We would like to help make this a memorable occasion for ALL of our 8th grade students. We currently are accepting gently used dresses that would be appropriate for our 8th grade girls. We have created Hannah's Closet to help any of our students and their families with this expenditure. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Zoellick at

Cell phone use on school buses..please read with your students...
Parents we need your help. HBMS students are allowed to use their cell phones any time on our school buses, but we do have some expectations that must be followed in order for your student to continue to be able to bring their phone with them to school each day. We have seen a recent increase in inappropriate cell phone use on the buses. Cell phones should only be used on the bus as a mode of silent and appropriate communication. Ring tones and sound effects distract our drivers and create unsafe situations for our students. No photographing or video images should ever be taken with electronic devises on the bus. This is an infringement of privacy rights. Thank you for discussing this issue with your students.
School Distrcit 47 Annual Budget
District budget adopted at the September 19th board meeting, the board adopted the 2011/2012 district budget. You can find a copy of the adopted budget on the district website at http://www.d47.org by selecting “Departments”, “Support Services”, “Finance”, “Budget” and selecting the link labeled “2011-2012 Budget”.
If the weather turns bad and school is closed you will receive a call from the Honeywell System. The information will also be found by listening to Star 105.5 on the radio.
Homework Club/Help
Homework club from 2:15-4:15. Open to all HBMS students. Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we will be hosting homework help sessions. High school and college volunteers will be here to assist our students with their questions and homework.
As a parent of a student at HBMS we hope you will set up your student for success by doing the following:
To make sure your student has at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
To make sure your student eats breakfast each morning before leaving for school.
To let your student know daily how much you love and appreciate them with a hug and an "I love you".
To be a good role model to your student by showing them respect and importance towards education throughout their school days.
To be ready and willing to invest some of your personal time into your student's educational success: read with them, help them study, proof read papers.
To consistently ask them about their school day.
To provide a time (at least an hour) every day (from 3pm-9pm_ for reading, studying and homework.
Every school night, get prepared for the next day. Select clothes to be worn, decide on lunch and prepare your backpack. This will make your mornings more relaxed.
Together we will make it a great day each and every day at HBMS.
