We love writing here at Glacier Ridge. To celebrate writing and creativity, we have begun a voluntary independent writing challenge called Polar Image-ination. This is a monthly challenge open to all students in grades 1-5. Each month the students are shown the same photograph and asked to write a fictional story that is reflective of the picture. Students will have approximately two and a half weeks to write their stories.
The grade level winner is selected by Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Fletcher and announced on the morning announcements. These students are invited to bring his/her lunch to the office to dine with Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Fletcher. Additionally each selected story will be posted on the Glacier Ridge website for others to enjoy. Please share our excitement for this creativity by following the link below to view the stories! Additional Early Release Days Approved for the 2011-2012 School Year- Facts and Schedule |
|

Purpose
During this past April's Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the implementation of five early release days for the 2011-2012 school year for the purposes of engaging District 47 teachers in structured and targeted staff development from which we hope to improve student learning outcomes. While the concept of staff release time being utilized in this capacity is new to District 47, it is a relatively common practice in many neighboring school districts including our local area high school district.

You and your extended family are invited to attend our annual Glacier Ridge Open House on Thursday, may 17th, as we celebrate together all of the great accomplishments of our students. To help with traffic and crowds, we are suggesting that families with the last names from A-M attend from 6:30-7:15, and families with the last names from N-Z attend from 7:30-8:15. the exception to this would be our 4th grade families who would need to attend the earlier session, so that they can attend the 4th grade musical at 7:30.
