Welcome to the Crystal Lake District 47 Homepage
The district has the largest student enrollment in McHenry County with just under 9,000 students.  These students are housed in 12 buildings consisting of nine elementary schools and three middle schools. We also have an early childhood center adjacent to an elementary school that houses approximately 275 special preschool students. The citizens of District 47 have always taken pride in their educational system and have supported us in our efforts to provide quality education and quality facilities for our students. Presidential Back to School Speech on September 14
You may or may not be aware that President Obama is again delivering a "Back to School" speech to our nation's students on September 14th.  The specific time of this speech has not yet been released.  When it is, it will be added to this communication. The purpose for this correspondence is to share how the Presidential "Back to School" speech will be handled this year in District 47.

Bus Rules and Safety

With the beginning of each school year, it is important to be reminded about the safety of students being transported to and from school and school-related activities. Federal law requires that manufacturers meet stringent safety standards for vehicles used by or for a district.
These standards require school buses to be more conspicuous (amber and red flashing warning lights, stop arms and crossing arms), and have enhanced
seating systems, crashworthiness protection, mirrors and emergency exits. What does this mean for the children that ride the "Big Yellow Bus'? It means they are virtually riding in a steel cage.
